Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized the necessity of fortifying the federal democratic republic in practice. Speaking at the ninth memorial ceremony of former Prime Minister and Constituent Assembly member Surya Bahadur Thapa, hosted by the Surya Bahadur Thapa Foundation, Deuba underscored the importance of enhancing the current system's acceptance, firmly asserting that the reinstatement of monarchy was out of the question.
Former Prime Minister Deuba categorically stated the impossibility of reinstating monarchy in the prevailing circumstances, affirming, "Nepal has now embraced a federal democratic republican governance system. While some individuals may advocate for the return of the monarchy, it is currently unfeasible. Therefore, our focus should be on bolstering the existing system through practical means." Deuba also highlighted the need to address the shortcomings in the constitution, recognizing room for improvement.
During the event, Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohoni praised late Thapa as a skilled politician and a versatile personality, urging all political factions to collaborate in steering the nation in the right direction. Arjun Narsingh KC, a central member of Nepali Congress, lauded Thapa's significant contributions to Nepal's political and administrative landscape.
Similarly, Sunil Bahadur Thapa, another central member of Nepali Congress, acknowledged Thapa's pivotal role in shaping the current political system, advocating for the emulation of his exemplary leadership.
